You’ve worked for months, years maybe, and now you’re ready to launch your brand new product.
Bold, fresh, perfect for your target market, but where do you start?
You see, hosting a product launch is probably the best idea. You’ll get to share with your audience what makes your product unique and perhaps get those very first few purchases secured.
However, it can be very difficult to plan and successfully manage a product launch-especially if it’s your first time.
Does that happen to be you? Well in today’s article I’ll be showing you a few things to consider that will guide you along the way.
Format
First thing’s first, we need to speak about the event format.
When planning a product launch, people usually take two paths. Some either go fully in-person, others decide to go fully virtual.
When it comes to choosing your format, what you need to be considering is the product.
Ask yourself this question-What kind of event would allow the audience to get the best product experience possible.
If you’re launching something that is best by touch you’d probably want to have it in person.
You could also consider how difficult it is for your audience to learn to use your product.
Maybe try a mix of both in a hybrid event-done in person but shared online. At the end of the day as long as your product’s concept is well delivered to the audience, you’ve done it right.
Who’s speaking?
Another really important aspect of product launches is the person/people delivering the event.
You need to ensure you pick the correct people, and though most times the correct speakers are picked for such events, we still occasionally come across poorly selected speakers at product functions.
Understand what your audience needs to hear about the product, and pick someone suitable to voice it out.
Here’s an example.
If you’re launching a health based product, it would probably be wise to have an accredited and well established doctor to voice it out.
Imagine watching someone who clearly doesn’t know what he’s on about trying to launch a new line of supplements.
It makes you wonder whether the supplements will really make you grow, or turn you into a mess.
Pick a theme
Another thing you should do to stand out from the start is pick a theme for your event.
At this point, what you need to be looking at is your product.
Look at it from all angles, like the way you’d go in and look at a new shoe from all angles (then leave without buying it).
The point is, you need to understand your product and its features and then build a theme around that.
Another example?
Let’s say you’re holding a product launch for a new electric bike.
One of your bike’s features is cruise control. Now don’t just take the feature, convert it into a benefit and theme your event around that.
Perhaps the benefit is that bike commuter’s can now get to work faster and with less sweat.
Well maybe your theme could be, simplifying and streamlining short distance commuter transport.
Attendees
Next you’ll have to consider who’s actually coming to your event.
For this one, it really depends on what kind of audience you’re targeting.
If your audience is extremely large, it would be hard to hold an in person event for all of them. You can skip this bit and go straight to the next thing below which is promotion. That’s where you’ll find what you need.
But if you can hold an event with a manageable audience, go for it.
You could think of bringing in people with influence in your industry and perhaps with their own audiences as well.
If they like your product, they could help you push it to their audience who will probably like it as well.
Promotion
Lastly, let’s talk about promotion.
Promoting a product launch is actually quite easy thanks to social media.
All you have to do is understand the platform that your target audience hangs out on, and reach them there.
There’s so many techniques you could try to get people to your event.
You could make it exclusive, you could get a few influencers to push it forward, you could run paid campaigns.
The options are endless. All it takes is a bit of creativity.
